Rose of Jericho, also known as Anastatica (Greek, anastasis, resurrection) or Hierochuntica (Greek, hiero, sacred), is a desert plant with great resistance to desiccation. It was used in ancient times to predict the weather and attract prosperity to the home.
The rose of Jericho has the ability to survive long periods of drought. It can spend even years. With a lack of water it dries out, shrinks and shuts down. When it is hydrated it comes back to life, so it is said to be resurrected. In deserts they are transported by the wind, disseminating their seeds.
Instructions for use:
- Fill a container with water and put the dried rose of Jericho in it. In a few hours, the plant will begin to open. Leave it in the water for three days without changing it. It is normal for the water to become cloudy or appear dirty.
- On the fourth day, remove the rose and rinse the container with water only. The rose is also rinsed gently. The bowl is refilled and the rose is reintroduced for another four days, during which time the rose should be cleaned and the water changed once a day.
- On the seventh day, the Rose of Jericho will have completed its cleaning process and adaptation to its new environment.
