Author: Jan Fries.

Translation and notes by Carlos M. Pla.

Foreword by Mogg Morgan.

Nightshadows is Jan Fries' magical exploration of the reverse regions of the Kabbalistic Tree of Life and its Qliphots. Aleister Crowley's Liber 231 provides the adventure map and Kenneth Grant's Nightside of Eden a travel journal. The first part of the book is an essay in which Typhonian concepts such as the Qlifot, the Tunnels of Set or the Abyss are explored theoretically. Also oriental disciplines (taoism, tantra ...), the Great Ancients by HP Lovecraft and the Forgotten by Nema Andahadna. The second part includes 72 impressive drawings by the author that try to emulate the Tunnels of Set, Lovecraftian gods and the Qlifot themselves, among other elements of thelemic and typhoonian nature. As Fries himself states: “The Night has always been with us and is much older than the day. Before the light began to shine, the night was already there. It seems somewhat dualistic: on the one hand, a radiant world of colors and shapes, more or less conceivable and significant. On the other, a chaotic one of uncertain and incomprehensible mysteries, both connected by the emptiness that makes them possible. However, when you get to the Night Side you discover that this is not simply a sinister reflection of the Daytime. The latter is a small island of experience in the middle of the huge Night Ocean, full of currents and unfathomable archipelagos. when you get to the Night Side you discover that this is not simply a sinister reflection of the Daytime. The latter is a small island of experience in the middle of the huge Night Ocean, full of currents and unfathomable archipelagos. when you get to the Night Side you discover that this is not simply a sinister reflection of the Daytime. The latter is a small island of experience in the middle of the huge Night Ocean, full of currents and unfathomable archipelagos.

Jan Fries is a German occult writer, neo shaman, and rune magician. He coined the term freestyle shamanism to describe a form of magic that emphasizes trance and closeness to nature, but based on individual experience. He cites Zos Kia Cultus, La Makgia de Maat, Tantra Kaula, Neuro-linguistic programming, and Daoism as his main influences. He is the author of Visual Magick: A Manual of Freestyle Shamanism (2007).
