What are affirmations?
Affirmations are strong, positive statements describing something as if it were already so. The practice of affirmations allows you to replace some of your habitual negative thought patterns with more positive ideas. By consciously selecting your words, you can shift your state of mind (emotions) which in turn, influences your behaviour and actions you take.
How to use affirmation cards:
Affirmations can be done in the silence of your own heart or spoken aloud and can be practised any time of the day.
Shuffle the cards and pull a random one out or select a card that feels right to you on this day. Focus on an affirmation with great intensity and emotion. Open your heart and believe that these statements are possible and true.
The more often you repeat affirmations, the more effective they will be. I recommend carrying a card with you or placing it somewhere you can see. Repeat it every time it catches your eye.
Affirmations are even more effective when used in combination with visualisation. Use the written meditation below to guide you in your practice.
Come to a comfortable seated position. Either sit up straight on the edge of a chair with your feet firmly grounded or cross-legged on the floor. If you find it hard to keep your spine tall while sitting on the floor, you might find it helpful to use a cushion.
Place your hands down on your knees and begin to feel grounded through your sit bones. Lengthen the spine and draw your shoulder blades back.
Once you feel comfortable, go ahead and close your eyes.
Breathe gently, deeply and slowly through your nose.
Now repeat an affirmation in your head and at the same time picture the image on a card (or if it’s easier - a simple sphere) glowing a gold, healing light. Keep your attention on the light. As you breathe in, welcome the light into your heart. Stay with the heart filled with light. Sense it. Feel it. And then let it spread until you feel that your entire body is filled with light.
